One of Kenya’s only two Relais & Chateaux properties, the Mara Plains Camp is part of the Great Plains Collection. This intimate destination offers world-class game viewing in a prime safari setting. Traverse the 40 thousand hectares of the private Olare Motorogi Conservancy filled with a wide array of African wildlife. Set amidst incredible natural beauty, the Mara Plains camp offers visitors the opportunity to experience true African wilderness from a destination that exudes luxurious elegance boasting East Africa-influenced architecture and interiors mixed with old-world charm. As one of only five camps in this wildlife-rich region bordering the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, it is a wildlife mecca world-renowned for the Great Migration.

The Rooms

Rich leather, glistening copper, and brass accents elegantly combine under large canvas tents to create the seven exquisite Mara Plains suites. Visitors can relax on their private decks overlooking the thick, lush forest on the meandering bends of the Ntiakitiak River. The interiors boast flowing fabrics framing open-air spaces with simple yet classic decor. Don’t miss the opportunity to soak the dust of the day away in a deep copper bath in the well-appointed ensuite bathrooms.

Wildlife Photography

Mara Plains offers both day and night drives in open game vehicles – one of the only camps in the Maasai Mara region to provide customised vehicles for photographers. Each guest tent comes complete with a pair of Swarovski binoculars and a professional Canon camera set, including a Canon 7D camera body and impressive Canon 100-400mm and 24-70mm lenses. Visitors can enjoy the opportunity to get up close and personal with wildlife and capture extraordinary scenes.

Spectacular Experiences

Sunrise and sunset game drives offer guests the best opportunity to spot the best of Africa’s wildlife. Night drives are particularly memorable in the Olare Motorogi Conservancy, with sightings of predators hunting the migrating herds, including lion and hyena hunts and lesser-known nocturnal mammals. A cultural visit to a local village offers visitors the chance to learn about the Maasai people of Kenya. Don’t miss the rare opportunity to float above the landscape in a hot air balloon to enjoy a bird’s eye view.
